The Hicks Yew is a versatile evergreen, thriving in both sunny and shaded areas, making it an excellent choice for creating hedges. With its remarkable adaptability and ability to withstand heavy pruning, this yew stands out as a prized hedge, offering lush foliage for an impressive privacy screen.
Distinguished by its charming red berries and unique foliage, the Hicks Yew sets itself apart from typical evergreens. Its petite leaves, resembling needles, add character to its overall visual appeal.
In the northern United States, growing the Hicks Yew is remarkably straightforward, flourishing in zones 4 to 7. Its resilience and resistance to pests and diseases make it a reliable choice. Once established, this yew becomes drought-tolerant. It can endure various conditions, including salt and pollution, making it particularly suitable for urban and cooler coastal regions.
Adaptable to different light conditions, the Hicks Yew thrives in well-drained soil. To support its growth, fertilize during planting and annually in spring using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer. While the yew can tolerate dry conditions, providing water when the soil begins to dry out promotes optimal growth.
